Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated National Park Law Enforcement Assistant to support our team in Albany, NY. This outdoor role is crucial for maintaining safety, enforcing park regulations, and assisting park visitors within national park units and designated areas. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of commissioned law enforcement officers, providing essential support in daily operations, visitor services, and resource protection. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation of natural and cultural resources while gaining valuable experience in federal law enforcement and park management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist commissioned law enforcement officers in patrolling park areas, including trails, campgrounds, and visitor centers.
- Monitor park compliance with rules and regulations, and report violations to supervising officers.
- Provide information and assistance to park visitors, answering questions and ensuring a positive visitor experience.
- Participate in search and rescue operations, emergency response, and first aid situations as directed.
- Conduct routine checks of park facilities and infrastructure for safety hazards or maintenance needs.
- Document incidents, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records.
- Support resource protection efforts by observing and reporting suspicious activities related to poaching, vandalism, or environmental damage.
- Operate and maintain various equipment, including patrol vehicles, radios, and basic law enforcement tools.
- Assist with traffic control and crowd management during special events or peak visitor periods.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid state driver's license.
- Ability to pass a background investigation and drug screening.
- Physical ability to perform duties in various outdoor conditions and terrains.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of outdoor safety and first aid principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Park Management, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- Previous experience in law enforcement, security, military, or outdoor recreation.
- Certifications in First Aid, CPR, or AED.
- Familiarity with national park policies and procedures.
- Experience with report writing and basic computer applications.
