Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Local Authority Transport Planner Trainee to join our dynamic team in Hoboken, NJ. This is an exceptional entry-level opportunity for individuals passionate about urban planning, transportation, and public service. As a Trainee, you will gain hands-on experience in supporting various transportation planning projects for local authorities, contributing to the development of sustainable, efficient, and accessible transport systems. This office-based role will involve working closely with experienced transport planners, engineers, and urban designers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior transport planners with data collection, analysis, and interpretation for various projects.
- Contribute to the preparation of transport planning reports, technical notes, and presentations.
- Learn to use transport modeling software and tools under guidance.
- Support public engagement activities and stakeholder consultations.
- Research best practices, policies, and regulations related to transportation planning.
- Participate in site visits and field surveys as required.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Maintain project documentation and records accurately.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in urban planning, geography, civil engineering, or a related field.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Basic understanding of transportation principles is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Geography, or a related discipline (or currently pursuing final year).
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS).
- Prior internship or volunteer experience in a planning or engineering environment.
- Knowledge of local transportation networks and challenges in New Jersey.
