Job Description
Are you a motivated and enthusiastic 14-year-old looking for an exciting summer opportunity to make a positive impact? The YMCA of San Diego County in Downtown Oceanside is seeking dedicated Teens Camp Aides to support our dynamic summer programs. This is a fantastic chance to gain valuable work experience, develop leadership skills, and contribute to a fun and safe environment for younger campers. You will assist camp counselors with daily activities, supervision, and program setup, embodying the YMCA’s values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist camp counselors with the supervision and engagement of campers (ages 5-12) during daily activities.
- Help organize and lead age-appropriate games, arts and crafts, sports, and educational activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers, reporting any concerns to senior staff.
- Help with the setup and cleanup of activity areas, materials, and equipment.
- Act as a positive role model for younger campers, demonstrating enthusiasm and sportsmanship.
- Support administrative tasks as needed, such as taking attendance or distributing materials.
- Participate actively in all camp training sessions and staff meetings.
- Encourage camper participation and foster an inclusive environment.
Required Skills
- Must be 14 years old by the start of the summer camp program.
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude with a genuine interest in working with children.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible.
- Demonstrated ability to be a positive role model.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a participant in YMCA or other summer camp programs.
- Basic knowledge of first aid (training will be provided if needed).
- Certification in CPR/AED (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
