Job Description
The University of Houston’s Moores School of Music is seeking dedicated and passionate Adjunct Music Faculty to teach a variety of music courses on a part-time, flexible basis. This role is ideal for experienced musicians and educators who are committed to fostering musical talent and academic excellence in a university setting. Adjunct faculty members play a crucial role in delivering high-quality instruction, mentoring students, and contributing to the vibrant artistic and academic life of our institution. We are looking for individuals who can inspire students, bring real-world experience to the classroom, and uphold the university’s standards of academic rigor.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engaging lectures, practical lessons, and ensemble coaching sessions to undergraduate and/or graduate students.
- Prepare comprehensive syllabi, course materials, and assignments that align with departmental curriculum guidelines and learning objectives.
- Evaluate student performance through grading assignments, projects, exams, and performances, providing constructive feedback.
- Hold regular office hours to provide academic support, mentorship, and guidance to students.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
- Adhere to all university and departmental policies and procedures.
- Participate in departmental meetings or events as required and feasible.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure curriculum consistency and student success.
Required Skills
- Master's degree or higher in Music or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated expertise and professional experience in a specific musical discipline (e.g., instrumental performance, vocal performance, music theory, music history, composition, music education).
- Prior college-level teaching experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- Strong pedagogical skills and a commitment to student learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree (DMA, PhD) in Music or a related field.
- Active professional performing or research career.
- Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
- Familiarity with current trends and technologies in music education.
