Job Description
Join Aruma as an Autism Support Worker and make a profound difference in the lives of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct, person-centred support to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder in their daily lives, including personal care, household tasks, and community activities.
- Assist individuals in developing and achieving their personal goals, promoting independence and life skills.
- Support individuals to participate in social, recreational, and educational activities within the Geelong community.
- Implement individualised support plans, behaviour support plans, and communication strategies effectively.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of support provided and progress towards goals.
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals at all times, adhering to all organisational policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with individuals, their families, and other team members.
Required Skills
- Strong empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support people with disabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to adapt communication styles.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation purposes.
- Valid Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle (with comprehensive insurance).
- Current First Aid Certificate and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, Community Services, or a related field.
- Previous experience (paid or voluntary) supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other disabilities.
- Understanding of positive behaviour support principles.
- Knowledge of the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) framework.
