Job Description

Join Aruma as an Autism Support Worker and make a profound difference in the lives of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, person-centred support to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder in their daily lives, including personal care, household tasks, and community activities.
  • Assist individuals in developing and achieving their personal goals, promoting independence and life skills.
  • Support individuals to participate in social, recreational, and educational activities within the Geelong community.
  • Implement individualised support plans, behaviour support plans, and communication strategies effectively.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of support provided and progress towards goals.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of individuals at all times, adhering to all organisational policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with individuals, their families, and other team members.

Required Skills

  • Strong empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to support people with disabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to adapt communication styles.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation purposes.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle (with comprehensive insurance).
  • Current First Aid Certificate and CPR (or willingness to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, Community Services, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (paid or voluntary) supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder or other disabilities.
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support principles.
  • Knowledge of the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) framework.
