Job Description
The RAND Corporation is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Foreign Policy Associate with a specialized focus on the Middle East and Asia. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to critical research initiatives, inform national and international policy debates, and work alongside leading experts in the field. The Associate will be instrumental in conducting in-depth research, analysis, and policy formulation concerning geopolitical developments, security challenges, economic trends, and social dynamics across these vital regions. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Westminster, CA, playing a crucial role in our International Security and Defense Policy Center.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on foreign policy issues pertaining to the Middle East and Asia, including political transitions, security doctrines, regional conflicts, and bilateral relations.
- Draft policy briefs, research reports, articles, and presentations for various audiences, including government officials, academic institutions, and the public.
- Monitor and analyze geopolitical events, security developments, and socio-economic trends within the focus regions.
- Contribute to project proposals, grant applications, and fundraising efforts to secure support for research initiatives.
- Participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences, representing RAND Corporation and presenting research findings.
- Collaborate with senior researchers and project teams to develop methodologies and execute research plans.
- Engage with external stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and international organizations, to gather information and disseminate research.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in International Relations, Political Science, Area Studies (Middle East or Asia), or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in the foreign policy and security landscape of the Middle East and/or Asia.
- Strong analytical, research, and writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise, and policy-relevant outputs.
- Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Fluent in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in a relevant field.
- Proficiency in a regional language (e.g., Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew, Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Urdu, Hindi, Indonesian, etc.).
- Previous experience in a think tank, government agency, or academic research setting.
- Familiarity with geopolitical modeling or data analysis tools.
- Experience in project management or grant writing.
