Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Forensic Nurse Examiner with a strong focus on legal support and specialized training. In this critical role, you will provide comprehensive forensic medical examinations and care for victims of violence, including sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. Your expertise will be crucial in collecting, preserving, and documenting forensic evidence while ensuring the highest standards of patient-centered care. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to legal protocols, and the ability to serve as an expert witness in court proceedings when necessary. You will work closely with law enforcement, legal professionals, and social services to ensure justice and support for our patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive forensic medical examinations for victims of violence, trauma, and neglect.
- Accurately document all findings, evidence collected, and patient interactions according to established protocols.
- Collect, preserve, and maintain the chain of custody for forensic evidence in accordance with legal and institutional guidelines.
- Provide empathetic and trauma-informed care to patients, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being throughout the examination process.
- Collaborate effectively with law enforcement, legal teams, victim advocates, and social services agencies.
- Prepare detailed reports and testify as an expert witness in court proceedings when subpoenaed.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and specialized training to maintain expertise in forensic nursing.
- Educate patients and families about available resources and follow-up care options.
- Adhere strictly to patient confidentiality and ethical guidelines.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of forensic nursing practices within the organization.
Required Skills
- Current RN licensure in the State of Florida.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in emergency, critical care, or women's health.
- Demonstrated understanding of forensic principles, evidence collection, and chain of custody.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact sensitively with diverse populations.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accurate documentation skills.
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in sensitive and high-stress situations.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Valid BLS and ACLS certifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Certification as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE-A or SANE-P).
- Experience providing expert witness testimony.
- Additional training or certifications in forensic sciences or legal nurse consulting.
- Previous experience working collaboratively with law enforcement agencies.
