Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Green Chemistry Scientist to join our advanced materials research and development team in Round Rock, TX. This role is pivotal in driving our sustainability goals by developing innovative chemical processes and products that minimize environmental impact and maximize resource efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in green chemistry principles, sustainable materials, and process optimization. You will be responsible for leading projects from conception through implementation, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to Eastman’s reputation as a leader in sustainable innovation. This is an On-site position, requiring regular presence at our state-of-the-art research facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and synthesis of novel chemical compounds and materials using green chemistry principles, focusing on reduced toxicity, renewable resources, and minimized waste.
- Develop and optimize sustainable chemical processes, including catalysis, solvent selection, and energy efficiency.
- Conduct comprehensive analytical characterization of new materials and processes, utilizing advanced spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques.
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and product development teams to scale up laboratory processes to pilot and commercial production.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and patent applications to document research findings and intellectual property.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in green chemistry, sustainable materials science, and relevant regulatory landscape.
- Mentor junior scientists and contribute to a collaborative and innovative research environment.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience in green chemistry, sustainable materials, or process development.
- Demonstrated expertise in applying green chemistry principles, including atom economy, benign solvents, and design for degradation.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques such as NMR, GC-MS, LC-MS, FTIR, and thermal analysis.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple projects concurrently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of presenting complex scientific information effectively.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with biocatalysis, photocatalysis, or electrochemistry in synthetic applications.
- Knowledge of life cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies and their application in product development.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial R&D setting, particularly in specialty chemicals or advanced materials.
- Proven track record of scientific publications, patents, or successful product launches.
