Job Description
Are you eager to launch a career in live events and production with a focus on high-stakes technical work? PRG is seeking a motivated and physically capable Lighting Technician’s Mate to join our Grand Forks team. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals with a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and an enthusiasm for learning the specialized skills of lighting and rigging. You will work alongside experienced technicians, assisting with the installation, operation, and strike of lighting systems, with a particular emphasis on climbing and rigging operations for various events and productions. This is a hands-on role requiring comfort with heights and physical exertion, offering significant learning opportunities and a clear path for career advancement in a dynamic industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior lighting technicians with the loading, unloading, and setup of lighting and rigging equipment.
- Learn and apply safe climbing and rigging techniques under direct supervision.
- Support the installation and positioning of lighting fixtures, truss, motors, and cabling.
- Perform routine equipment checks and basic maintenance as directed.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment on site and in the warehouse.
- Follow all company safety protocols and industry best practices for working at heights and with heavy equipment.
- Actively participate in training sessions and seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth project execution.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
- Comfortable working at heights and in various environmental conditions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use basic hand and power tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced technicians.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by production schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a physical labor role, construction, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of theatrical or event lighting equipment.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
- Experience with rope access, fall protection, or rescue techniques.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
