Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Livestock Hauler for specialized long-haul routes. This crucial role involves the safe, humane, and efficient transportation of live animals across significant distances. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of animal welfare, stringent adherence to DOT regulations, and a proven track record of safe driving practices. You will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of the livestock from pick-up to delivery, maintaining equipment, and accurately completing all necessary documentation. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Class A commercial vehicle to transport livestock over long distances, adhering to all federal, state, and company regulations.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicle, trailer, and livestock containment equipment.
- Ensure the humane treatment and welfare of livestock during loading, transit, and unloading, including providing water and ventilation as needed.
- Monitor livestock health and behavior throughout the journey, responding promptly to any issues.
- Maintain accurate logs, manifests, and other required documentation electronically and physically.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, animal handlers, and delivery personnel.
- Adhere to all animal health and biosecurity protocols.
- Keep the truck and trailer clean and well-maintained.
- Manage routes and schedules efficiently to meet delivery deadlines.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A)
- Minimum 3 years of verifiable commercial driving experience, with at least 1 year in livestock hauling.
- Clean driving record (MVR).
- Thorough understanding of DOT regulations, hours of service, and animal welfare standards (e.g., HAACP, PAACO).
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing, lifting, and securing loads.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with ELD (Electronic Logging Device) systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific livestock types (e.g., cattle, hogs, poultry).
- Advanced driver training or certifications.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and basic repair.
- High school diploma or GED.
