Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Music Audition Coach to join our team, focusing on high school and college preparation. This role involves guiding aspiring young musicians through the rigorous audition processes for collegiate music programs and conservatories. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of music theory, performance techniques across various instruments/vocal styles, and a proven track record of successfully preparing students for competitive auditions. You will develop personalized coaching plans, conduct mock auditions, and provide invaluable feedback to help students achieve their musical aspirations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized coaching plans for high school students preparing for college music auditions.
- Provide expert instruction in music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and performance techniques.
- Conduct mock auditions, offering constructive feedback and strategies for improvement.
- Assist students in selecting appropriate audition repertoire that showcases their strengths.
- Educate students on audition etiquette, interview skills, and portfolio development.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and school counselors to support student progress.
- Stay current with audition requirements and trends at leading music conservatories and university programs.
- Maintain detailed records of student progress and provide regular updates.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience coaching or teaching music, specifically preparing students for auditions
- Proficiency in at least one primary instrument or vocal category (classical or jazz focus preferred)
- Strong understanding of music theory, harmony, and ear training
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and learning styles
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Performance or Music Education
- Experience as an admissions or audition committee member for a collegiate music program
- Familiarity with various music software and recording technologies for audition submissions
- Demonstrated success in placing students into highly competitive music programs
