Job Description
Saint Leo University invites applications for the position of Music Department Chair. This is a pivotal leadership role for an experienced and visionary educator and musician to shape the future of our comprehensive music programs. The successful candidate will oversee curriculum development, faculty mentorship, departmental administration, and strategic growth initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Music Department, aligning with the university's mission and academic goals.
- Oversee curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes for all music programs (undergraduate and graduate).
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate full-time and adjunct faculty members within the department.
- Manage departmental budget, resources, and facilities effectively.
- Facilitate and promote faculty research, creative activities, and professional development.
- Represent the Music Department within the College of Arts and Sciences, the university, and external professional organizations.
- Actively engage in student recruitment, advising, and retention efforts.
- Teach courses within your area of expertise as needed, maintaining an active scholarly or performance profile.
Required Skills
- Doctorate in Music or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of full-time teaching experience at the university level.
- Proven administrative or leadership experience in an academic setting.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, or creative performance.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and administration.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with music program accreditation (e.g., NASM).
- Expertise in music technology, contemporary music practices, or interdisciplinary arts.
- A track record of successful grant writing or fundraising for arts programs.
- Experience in online or hybrid music education delivery.
