Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Nuclear Pharmacy Technician with a Specialized Science focus to join our dynamic team in Columbus, Ohio. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in the preparation, compounding, and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals under the direct supervision of a licensed nuclear pharmacist. This position requires a strong understanding of scientific principles, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to regulatory compliance and patient safety. You will work in a fast-paced environment, contributing to the delivery of life-saving diagnostic and therapeutic agents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Aseptically compound and dispense radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic use according to physician orders and established protocols.
  • Perform quality control procedures on radiopharmaceuticals and equipment, including dose calibration and integrity checks.
  • Manage inventory of radiopharmaceutical stock, ancillary supplies, and hazardous materials, ensuring proper storage and disposal.
  • Operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment, including dose calibrators, laminar flow hoods, and hot cells.
  • Adhere strictly to all state and federal regulations, including those set by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), FDA, and Board of Pharmacy.
  • Participate in daily radiation safety monitoring, documentation, and contamination control.
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate documentation for all dispensed doses, inventory, and quality control activities.
  • Assist with facility maintenance and cleaning to ensure a sterile and safe working environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, other technicians, and healthcare professionals to ensure timely and accurate delivery of products.

Required Skills

  • Active Pharmacy Technician license in the state of Ohio.
  • Certification from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or equivalent preferred, or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a pharmacy setting, preferably with exposure to sterile compounding or specialized medications.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of scientific principles, chemistry, and radiation safety.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and precision in compounding and quality control tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a highly regulated and fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and pharmacy software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science-related field (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Physics).
  • Previous experience specifically in a nuclear pharmacy or nuclear medicine department.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique and sterile product preparation.
  • Familiarity with NRC and DOT regulations regarding radiopharmaceutical handling and transport.
