Job Description

Join Yale New Haven Health System as an Online Transcription Assistant with a Medical Focus. This 100% remote position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to patient care by accurately transcribing medical reports, dictated notes, and other critical documentation. You will play a vital role in maintaining precise patient records, ensuring clear communication among healthcare providers, and supporting the overall efficiency of our medical operations from the comfort of your home. We are seeking a detail-oriented individual with excellent listening skills and a foundational understanding of medical terminology, eager to embark on a career in medical transcription.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transcribe medical dictations accurately and efficiently, including patient histories, physical exams, operative reports, consultation notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Ensure strict adherence to patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Review and edit transcribed documents for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and consistency.
  • Clarify discrepancies or incomplete information with dictating physicians or other healthcare professionals as needed.
  • Maintain high levels of productivity and quality standards.
  • Manage time effectively to meet established deadlines for transcription tasks.
  • Utilize specialized transcription software and tools proficiently.

Required Skills

  • Excellent listening comprehension and ability to distinguish medical terminology.
  • Strong command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Proficiency in typing with a high WPM (Words Per Minute) accuracy.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmaceutical terms.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new software quickly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in medical transcription or a related healthcare administrative role.
  • Completion of a medical transcription training program or certification (e.g., AHDI).
  • Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of various medical specialties and report formats.
