Job Description
Regions Financial Corporation is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Policy Communications Lead with a strong focus on ‘High Street’ PR to join our corporate communications team. This pivotal role involves leading the development and execution of communications strategies related to public policy, regulatory affairs, and legislative developments, particularly those impacting local businesses, consumers, and community banking. The successful candidate will be instrumental in protecting and enhancing Regions’ reputation, articulating our policy positions, and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders including media, policymakers, and industry associations. This role requires an expert communicator capable of distilling complex financial policy issues into clear, compelling, and accessible messages for various audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for public policy initiatives, focusing on 'High Street' (local businesses, consumers, community banking) issues.
- Monitor, analyze, and interpret legislative and regulatory proposals at federal, state, and local levels relevant to the financial services industry.
- Craft compelling messaging, press releases, talking points, speeches, and other communication materials for senior executives and spokespersons.
- Serve as a primary media contact for policy-related inquiries, building and nurturing relationships with key journalists and media outlets.
- Collaborate closely with government relations, legal, compliance, and various business units to ensure strategic alignment of policy communications.
- Manage issues and crisis communications related to policy developments, protecting the company's reputation.
- Represent Regions at industry events, conferences, and stakeholder meetings, articulating the company's perspective.
- Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on emerging public policy communication challenges and opportunities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years (72 months) of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or public affairs, with a focus on policy.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a portfolio demonstrating impactful policy-related content.
- Proven ability to translate complex legislative and regulatory issues into clear, concise, and compelling narratives.
- Strong media relations expertise and established network with journalists covering financial services or public policy.
- In-depth understanding of the legislative and regulatory processes at federal, state, and local levels.
- Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated understanding of the financial services industry and its unique communication challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Communications, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related advanced degree.
- Experience in a large, publicly traded financial institution or a leading public affairs/PR agency specializing in financial services.
- Familiarity with state and local policy landscapes, particularly in the Southeast U.S.
- Proven experience in crisis communications and reputation management within a regulated industry.
- Active participation in relevant industry associations or professional organizations.
