Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team in Sacramento, CA. This is an immediate opening for a dedicated professional ready to provide critical care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical or diagnostic procedures. The ideal candidate will possess excellent assessment skills, the ability to manage complex patient needs, and a commitment to ensuring patient safety and comfort during the critical post-operative period. You will work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient outcomes. This is an on-site position requiring full-time commitment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to post-operative patients recovering from general, regional, and local anesthesia.
  • Perform thorough and continuous patient assessments, including vital signs, neurological status, pain levels, and surgical site evaluation.
  • Administer medications, including pain relief and antiemetics, as prescribed and monitor for adverse reactions.
  • Manage airways, oxygen therapy, and ventilation support for patients with respiratory compromise.
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, responding appropriately to dysrhythmias.
  • Assess and manage post-operative pain using pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Provide clear and concise hand-off reports to receiving units or discharge patients with comprehensive post-operative instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care, observations, and interventions.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other nursing staff.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards to ensure patient safety and quality care.

Required Skills

  • Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • BLS and ACLS certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent PACU or critical care experience (ICU/ER acceptable)
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac monitoring and interpretation
  • Proficiency in airway management and ventilator support
  • Excellent assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPAN (Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse) or CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) certification
  • Experience with various anesthesia types and complex surgical procedures
  • Bilingual skills (especially Spanish)
