Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Hospital Porter / Orderly to join our team at our Goodyear facility. This vital role is responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe transport of patients, equipment, and supplies throughout the hospital, contributing directly to patient comfort and operational flow. Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients via wheelchairs, gurneys, or beds to and from various hospital departments (e.g., admissions, discharge, diagnostics, operating rooms).
- Move medical equipment, laboratory specimens, medical records, and supplies as required by hospital staff.
- Assist clinical staff with patient transfers, ambulation, and positioning as directed.
- Ensure all transport equipment is clean, sanitized, and in good working order, reporting any maintenance needs.
- Respond promptly to requests from nursing staff and other departments for porter services.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, including infection control protocols and patient privacy (HIPAA).
- Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, families, visitors, and hospital staff.
- Maintain a professional and empathetic demeanor at all times, providing comfort and reassurance to patients.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift, push, and pull heavy loads (e.g., patients on gurneys).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-first approach.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic literacy to read labels and patient information.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Commitment to upholding patient confidentiality and safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital setting as a porter, orderly, or similar role.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
