Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lab Systems Specialist with a strong background in both IT and Chemistry to join our innovative team in Indianapolis. This role is pivotal in supporting, maintaining, and optimizing our Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and other critical lab applications. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between scientific users and technical solutions, ensuring the seamless operation and enhancement of our lab systems to support research and development activities. Key Responsibilities
- Manage, configure, and maintain LIMS (e.g., LabWare LIMS, Thermo Fisher SampleManager LIMS) and other scientific data systems.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for lab system users, resolving issues related to software functionality, data integrity, and system performance.
- Collaborate with laboratory personnel to understand scientific workflows and translate business requirements into technical specifications for system enhancements.
- Participate in the validation and qualification of new lab systems, upgrades, and configurations in a GxP regulated environment.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including user manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and validation protocols.
- Conduct training sessions for end-users on LIMS functionalities and best practices.
- Monitor system performance and implement preventative maintenance to ensure optimal operation.
- Work closely with IT infrastructure teams to ensure system security, data backup, and disaster recovery planning.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation within laboratory workflows through system optimization.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related scientific/technical field.
- 2+ years of experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) in a support or administrative role.
- Strong understanding of laboratory processes and data management principles.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting software applications and system integrations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., GxP, FDA).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with specific LIMS platforms such as LabWare LIMS or Thermo Fisher SampleManager LIMS.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL) for data manipulation or system automation.
- Knowledge of other lab instrumentation software and data acquisition systems.
- Project management experience in an IT or scientific context.
- Certifications in IT service management (e.g., ITIL) or relevant software platforms.
