Job Description

Are you a keen observer with an eye for detail and a commitment to public service? TARC is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Public Transit Secret Riders. In this unique and essential role, you will anonymously ride TARC buses and observe various aspects of our service delivery, ensuring we meet our high standards for safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This stable part-time position offers the flexibility to work around your schedule while making a tangible impact on the quality of public transportation in our community. Your objective feedback will directly contribute to service improvements and driver training programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Anonymously ride designated TARC bus routes at various times and days.
  • Observe and accurately document service quality, including driver professionalism, adherence to schedule, vehicle cleanliness, and passenger experience.
  • Evaluate compliance with TARC policies and procedures.
  • Provide objective and detailed written reports on observations, including specific instances of exemplary service or areas needing improvement.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and anonymity throughout the evaluation process.
  • Identify potential safety concerns or operational inefficiencies.
  • Complete all required reports and documentation accurately and on time.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written communication skills for clear and concise reporting.
  • Ability to remain anonymous and objective.
  • High level of integrity and reliability.
  • Proficiency with basic technology for digital report submission (e.g., smartphone or tablet).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Familiarity with public transit systems and general travel etiquette.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a mystery shopper or similar evaluative role.
  • Extensive familiarity with TARC routes and services.
  • Knowledge of customer service best practices.
