Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Raw Materials Chemist with a strong focus on supply chain integration to join our innovative team in The Woodlands, TX. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the quality, consistency, and timely availability of raw materials vital to our manufacturing processes. You will collaborate closely with procurement, R&D, production, and external suppliers to optimize material specifications, resolve supply chain challenges, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply your chemical expertise in a dynamic, fast-paced industrial environment, directly impacting product quality and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, evaluate, and approve specifications for raw materials in collaboration with R&D, production, and quality assurance teams.
- Conduct chemical analysis and physical testing of incoming raw materials to ensure compliance with established specifications and quality standards.
- Work closely with procurement and suppliers to resolve material quality issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Participate in supplier qualification processes, including audits and technical evaluations, to ensure a robust and reliable supply base.
- Monitor global supply chain trends and material availability, identifying potential risks and proposing alternative material solutions or strategies.
- Support new product development initiatives by evaluating new raw materials for functionality, cost-effectiveness, and supply chain reliability.
- Maintain accurate documentation of raw material specifications, test results, and supplier performance data.
- Drive continuous improvement in raw material quality, testing methodologies, and supply chain processes.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a laboratory or industrial setting focused on raw material analysis, quality control, or supply chain chemistry.
- Proficiency with analytical techniques such as GC, HPLC, spectroscopy (FTIR, UV-Vis), rheology, and titrimetry.
- Strong understanding of chemical properties, reactions, and material characterization.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to perform root cause analysis for material non-conformances.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and statistical process control.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field.
- Experience in the chemical, polymer, or specialty materials industry.
- Knowledge of supply chain management principles and practices.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
- Project management experience in a technical environment.
