Job Description

Join Amtrak as an Entry-Level Train Station Platform Attendant in Charleston, SC. This vital role ensures the safety, comfort, and efficiency of our station platforms and passengers. You will be the first point of contact for many travelers, providing essential information, assistance, and maintaining a secure environment. No prior experience is required, as comprehensive training will be provided to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed. Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor platform activities to ensure passenger safety, identifying and addressing potential hazards.
  • Provide clear and concise directions and information to passengers regarding train schedules, boarding procedures, and amenities.
  • Assist passengers with special needs, including individuals with disabilities, elderly passengers, and families with young children.
  • Manage crowd control during peak hours and train arrivals/departures, ensuring orderly boarding and alighting.
  • Communicate effectively with train crews, station management, and security personnel regarding operational status and passenger issues.
  • Report any suspicious activities, safety concerns, or incidents promptly to appropriate authorities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized platform environment, reporting maintenance needs as necessary.
  • Operate platform equipment as required, such as gates or public address systems, after proper training.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a helpful and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in fast-paced or emergency situations.
  • High level of attentiveness to detail and safety protocols.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, and occasionally lift light luggage for extended periods.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role (e.g., retail, hospitality, or public service).
  • Basic knowledge of public transportation systems.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
