Job Description
Join GFL Environmental as a Refuse Loader / Bin Collector and play a vital role in keeping our communities clean and safe. This physically demanding but rewarding role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, collecting waste and recycling from residential and commercial properties. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently collect residential and commercial refuse and recycling materials along designated routes.
- Operate compaction mechanisms and other equipment on the refuse truck in a safe manner.
- Load refuse, yard waste, and recycling into the truck as directed, ensuring proper sorting when necessary.
- Maneuver bins and containers to the collection vehicle, ensuring they are returned to their designated spots.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, company policies, and traffic regulations at all times.
- Assist the driver with navigating routes, monitoring surroundings, and backing up the vehicle.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment as required, reporting any deficiencies.
- Maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and equipment.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including repetitive lifting, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 lbs.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow).
- Excellent safety awareness and commitment to safe work practices.
- Basic communication skills to interact with team members and follow instructions.
- Team-oriented attitude with a willingness to assist colleagues.
- Valid driver's license (Class 5 or equivalent) is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in waste management, general labor, or a similar physical role.
- Knowledge of local waste collection routes in the Marystown area.
- Experience operating heavy equipment or commercial vehicles.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
