Job Description

The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as School Bus Drivers. No prior experience is required – we provide comprehensive, paid training to help you obtain your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and school bus endorsements. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus on designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and district policies.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure mechanical soundness and cleanliness.
- Ensure the safe boarding and disembarking of students, including assisting those with special needs when necessary.
- Maintain discipline and order among students on the bus, following district guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatch.
- Report any incidents, accidents, mechanical failures, or student behavioral issues promptly.
- Attend all mandatory safety meetings and training sessions.
- Adhere to strict time schedules while maintaining safety as the top priority.
Required Skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Possess a valid state driver's license with a clean driving record for at least the past five years.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
- Successfully complete all required written and practical CDL training provided by the district.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Strong commitment to safety and passenger well-being.
- Patience, strong communication skills, and a professional demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children or in a customer service role.
- First Aid and CPR certification (training provided if needed).
- Familiarity with Fairbanks area roads and traffic patterns.
- Mechanical aptitude for basic vehicle checks.
