Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced School Crossing Guard Supervisor to oversee and manage our team of School Crossing Patrol Officers (SCPOs) across the Basingstoke and Deane borough. This critical role ensures the safe passage of children to and from school, playing a vital part in community safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for recruitment, training, scheduling, performance management, and equipment provision for the SCPO team, working closely with local schools and the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and manage a team of School Crossing Patrol Officers (SCPOs).
- Develop and implement effective rotas and deployment plans for SCPOs across various school sites.
- Conduct regular site visits to ensure adherence to safety protocols and evaluate SCPO performance.
- Investigate incidents and complaints thoroughly, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of SCPO activities, equipment, and training.
- Liaise with schools, parents, and local police on matters related to school crossing safety.
- Manage the procurement, distribution, and maintenance of all SCPO equipment and uniforms.
- Provide ongoing support, guidance, and professional development opportunities for the SCPO team.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and council policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, public, and stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and administrative abilities.
- Proficiency in basic IT applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel across the borough.
- Knowledge of health and safety principles, particularly in public environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a local authority or public sector environment.
- Previous experience as a School Crossing Patrol Officer or similar role.
- First Aid qualification.
- Knowledge of traffic management and road safety regulations.
