Job Description
Join AVI-SPL as a Sound Reinforcement Technician with a dedicated focus on supporting house of worship clients in the Columbus, OH area. In this stable, full-time role, you will be instrumental in ensuring flawless audio experiences for congregations and events. You will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of professional sound systems, working closely with worship leaders, musicians, and technical teams to achieve optimal acoustic performance. This position requires a passion for audio excellence, a deep understanding of live sound principles, and a commitment to providing exceptional service in a faith-based environment. We seek an individual who is not only technically proficient but also possesses a strong work ethic and the ability to adapt to dynamic live production needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, calibrate, and operate complex sound reinforcement systems for worship services, special events, and rehearsals.
- Perform live sound mixing (FOH and/or monitors) with precision and musicality.
- Conduct pre-event system checks, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance on audio equipment.
- Collaborate with worship teams, musicians, and speakers to understand their audio needs and provide technical support.
- Manage and maintain inventory of microphones, cables, mixing consoles, amplifiers, and loudspeakers.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently during live events.
- Ensure proper gain staging, equalization, compression, and effects processing for all audio sources.
- Train volunteer staff or client personnel on basic audio system operation and best practices.
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices for equipment handling and electrical connections.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in live sound reinforcement, preferably in a house of worship or similar live event setting.
- Proficiency with digital and analog mixing consoles (e.g., Yamaha, Behringer, Midas, Allen & Heath).
- Strong understanding of signal flow, acoustic principles, and audio physics.
- Experience with various microphone types, wireless systems, and in-ear monitors.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex audio issues under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift and move audio equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends, as required by worship service schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal training or certification in audio engineering or related field.
- Experience with audio networking protocols (Dante, AVB, etc.).
- Familiarity with lighting and video systems integration.
- Proficiency in setting up and operating recording systems for live events.
- A passion for music and worship, and understanding of the unique technical needs of faith-based organizations.
