Job Description

The Louisiana Department of Health is seeking a diligent and organized State Government Warehouse Clerk to join our team in Lafayette. This crucial role is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of our warehouse facilities, which are instrumental in the storage and distribution of materials essential for public sector benefits programs. The successful candidate will manage inventory, process shipments, and ensure the timely and accurate handling of goods, directly contributing to our mission of serving the citizens of Louisiana.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and store incoming materials and supplies, verifying against purchase orders for accuracy.
  • Pick, pack, and prepare outgoing shipments according to established procedures and deadlines for various public sector benefit programs.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using a computerized inventory management system.
  • Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely and efficiently (training provided if necessary).
  • Ensure the warehouse is kept clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks and other vehicles.
  • Collaborate with other departmental staff to ensure smooth workflow and timely distribution of resources.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including data entry and use of inventory software.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid Louisiana Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (6-12 months) in a warehouse, logistics, or inventory management role.
  • Experience operating a forklift or other material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with state government procurement or supply chain processes.
