Job Description
Science World is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic STEM Education & Outreach Intern to join our dynamic team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful educational initiatives within a leading non-profit organization. The intern will play a crucial role in developing, delivering, and evaluating engaging STEM programs and outreach activities for diverse audiences, including K-12 students, families, and community groups. This is an on-site position based at our iconic Vancouver location, providing hands-on experience in informal science education, program management, and community engagement. You will work alongside experienced educators and communicators, gaining invaluable insights into the operations of a large-scale science centre and its impact on public understanding of STEM.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the research, development, and testing of new STEM educational content and activities.
- Deliver interactive workshops, demonstrations, and presentations to various age groups, both on-site and at outreach locations.
- Support the coordination and logistics of educational programs, including material preparation and setup.
- Contribute to the evaluation of program effectiveness and participant engagement through surveys and feedback collection.
- Help maintain and organize educational resources and equipment.
- Engage with visitors and program participants, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with other departments to promote STEM initiatives and events.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated passion for STEM education and inspiring curiosity in others.
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, comfortable speaking to groups of all ages.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new challenges.
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in education, science, engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience volunteering or working with youth or in an educational setting.
- Familiarity with informal science education methodologies.
- Basic knowledge of educational technology or multimedia tools.
- Experience with project management or event coordination.
- Ability to communicate in French or other additional languages.
