Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Student Research Aide to join one of our dynamic university departments in Plano, TX. This part-time position offers a unique opportunity for current students to gain hands-on experience in a research setting, supporting faculty and graduate students on various projects. The successful candidate will contribute to data collection, analysis, literature reviews, and general laboratory or office support, playing a crucial role in the department’s ongoing research initiatives. This role is ideal for students looking to develop their research skills, explore academic careers, and make tangible contributions to scientific knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist faculty and graduate students with data collection, entry, and organization using various tools and software.
- Conduct literature searches and summarize findings relevant to ongoing research projects.
- Perform basic data analysis tasks under supervision, utilizing statistical software or spreadsheets.
- Prepare research materials, equipment, and experimental setups as instructed.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of research activities, observations, and data.
- Provide general administrative support to the department, including organizing files, scheduling, and preparing documents.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and ethical guidelines pertinent to the research area.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions about research progress and challenges.
- Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled as a student at The University of Texas at Dallas or a related institution.
- Strong academic record with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently when required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated interest in academic research and the specific departmental focus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a research lab or academic setting.
- Familiarity with specific research software or tools relevant to the department (e.g., SPSS, R, Python, MATLAB, Qualtrics, etc.).
- Experience with literature review databases (e.g., PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science).
- Completed coursework in research methodology or statistics.
- Availability to work 10-20 hours per week.
