Job Description
Join the YMCA of Metro Atlanta as a Summer Camp Nurse and play a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of our campers and staff. This seasonal position offers a unique opportunity to combine your passion for nursing with the joy of summer camp life. You will be responsible for providing medical care, administering medications, managing health records, and responding to medical emergencies in a dynamic camp setting. We are looking for a compassionate and proactive Registered Nurse (RN) who is eager to contribute to a positive and healthy camp experience. Seasonal housing and meals are included, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the vibrant camp community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to campers and staff, including first aid, illness management, and injury assessment.
- Administer prescribed medications safely and accurately, maintaining detailed records.
- Manage and maintain all camper health records, medical forms, and incident reports in compliance with health regulations and YMCA policies.
- Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, providing immediate care and coordinating with emergency services when necessary.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding camper health concerns, adhering to privacy standards.
- Implement and enforce health and safety protocols to prevent illness and injury, including sanitation and hygiene standards.
- Monitor inventory of medical supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock and proper maintenance.
- Collaborate with camp directors and staff to create a healthy and supportive camp environment.
- Provide health education to campers and staff as needed.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Georgia.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (BLS preferred).
- Proficiency in medical assessment, medication administration, and emergency response.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping.
- Compassionate and patient demeanor, especially when working with children and adolescents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a camp nurse or in a school health setting.
- Experience working with children and adolescents.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
- Knowledge of camp health regulations and best practices.
