Job Description
Join Kaiser Permanente’s dynamic team in Vallejo, CA, for our Summer Vacation Program as a Paid Transcription Intern. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a leading healthcare organization, contributing to the accurate and timely transcription of critical medical and administrative documents. You will work closely with experienced professionals, learning the nuances of healthcare terminology, confidentiality protocols, and efficient transcription practices. This role is ideal for individuals eager to develop their administrative and linguistic skills while making a meaningful contribution to patient care and operational efficiency. The program is designed to provide valuable real-world experience, mentorship, and insights into the healthcare industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe audio recordings of medical dictations, meetings, and administrative notes accurately and efficiently.
- Review and edit transcribed documents for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and clarity.
- Ensure strict adherence to patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Familiarize yourself with medical terminology and healthcare-specific jargon.
- Organize and maintain transcribed files and related documentation.
- Collaborate with medical and administrative staff to clarify unclear dictations or instructions.
- Assist with other administrative tasks as needed to support department operations.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance transcription skills and healthcare knowledge.
Required Skills
- Excellent listening comprehension skills.
- Strong proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Accurate and fast typing speed (minimum 60 WPM).
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with word processing software.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a relevant post-secondary program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior exposure to medical or legal terminology.
- Experience with transcription software or digital dictation equipment.
- Coursework in medical office administration, healthcare, or related fields.
