Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Traveling Music Teacher to join our growing team. This role involves providing private and group music lessons to students of all ages (from beginners to advanced) in their homes or other designated locations throughout the Berkeley area. You will be responsible for delivering engaging, personalized instruction across various instruments, primarily guitar, bass, drums, piano, and vocals. This position requires a passionate educator who can inspire students, adapt teaching methods to individual needs, and is comfortable with a flexible schedule and traveling. We offer a high daily rate and mileage reimbursement to compensate for your valuable time and travel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to students' homes or other locations within the Berkeley region to provide music lessons.
  • Develop and implement personalized lesson plans tailored to students' ages, skill levels, and musical interests.
  • Teach a variety of instruments including, but not limited to, guitar, bass, drums, piano, and vocals.
  • Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback.
  • Prepare students for performances, exams, or personal musical goals.
  • Communicate effectively with students and parents regarding progress, scheduling, and lesson expectations.
  • Maintain a professional and positive teaching environment.
  • Manage scheduling and logistics for multiple students across different locations.
  • Stay updated on current music education trends and teaching methodologies.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in at least two of the following instruments: guitar, bass, drums, piano, vocals.
  • Proven experience teaching music to diverse age groups (children, teens, adults).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to adapt teaching styles to suit individual learning needs.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a passion for music education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Performance, or a related field.
  • Experience with performance-based music education programs.
  • Knowledge of music theory and composition.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience working with students with special needs.
