Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Paint Scraping & Prep Laborer to join our dynamic team in Yellowknife. This role involves essential manual work, both indoors and outdoors, to prepare surfaces for painting and finishing. The ideal candidate will be meticulous, reliable, and able to work effectively in varying weather conditions typical of the Northwest Territories. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience in the construction and maintenance industry with a reputable local company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scrape, sand, and remove old paint, rust, and other materials from various surfaces.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces for painting, including washing, degreasing, and filling cracks/holes.
  • Apply masking tape, drop cloths, and other protective coverings to surrounding areas.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely, such as scrapers, sanders, and grinders.
  • Assist painters with material handling, mixing paints, and site setup/cleanup.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Perform other manual labor tasks as assigned to support project completion.

Required Skills

  • Physical stamina and strength to perform repetitive tasks and lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to work effectively in various weather conditions (cold, heat, wind).
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures on a construction or maintenance site.
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in construction, painting, or general labor.
  • Knowledge of basic hand and power tools.
  • Valid driver's license.
