Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Music Rights & Licensing Clerk with a strong legal focus to join our team in Overland Park. This role is crucial in supporting our legal and business affairs department, ensuring the accurate management and processing of music rights and licensing agreements. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of intellectual property rights, particularly within the music industry, and a commitment to maintaining meticulous records. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation, review, and filing of various music licensing agreements, including mechanical, synchronization, and public performance licenses.
  • Maintain and update a comprehensive database of music rights, publishing information, and artist agreements.
  • Process incoming licensing requests and inquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Conduct research on copyright ownership, royalty splits, and contractual obligations.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel, A&R, and business affairs teams to ensure compliance with legal standards and internal policies.
  • Support the royalty administration process by verifying data and assisting with dispute resolution.
  • Prepare reports and summaries related to licensing activities and rights management.
  • Ensure all documentation is organized, archived, and accessible for audit purposes.

Required Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Basic understanding of intellectual property, copyright law, or contract administration.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Music Business, Communications, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in an administrative or clerical role, preferably within a legal or music industry setting.
  • Familiarity with music rights management software or databases.
  • Experience with legal document review and contract management.
