Job Description

Providence St. Patrick Hospital is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) Tech with a focus on Hospital Systems to join our pharmacy and IT support team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of our automated dispensing systems, ensuring their optimal functionality and integration within our hospital’s clinical environment. You will work closely with pharmacists, nurses, and IT staff to optimize medication management workflows, minimize errors, and enhance patient safety. This position requires a strong technical aptitude, a commitment to accuracy, and excellent communication skills to support healthcare professionals in their use of these vital systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and cleaning of automated dispensing machines (e.g., Omnicell, Pyxis) to ensure peak performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to ADM hardware, software, and networking in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and decommissioning of ADM units across various hospital departments.
  • Manage ADM inventory, including loading, unloading, and securing medications as per established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Provide training and ongoing support to clinical staff on the proper and efficient use of ADM systems.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy and IT departments to implement system updates, patches, and enhancements.
  • Monitor system performance, identify potential issues, and recommend improvements to optimize workflow and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and inventory activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, HIPAA), and best practices for medication management.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to automated medication dispensing.

Required Skills

  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn complex hospital systems quickly.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Biomedical Technology, IT, or a related field.
  • Previous experience (1+ years) working with automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Omnicell, Pyxis) in a healthcare setting.
  • Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT).
  • Experience with hospital information systems (HIS) or electronic health records (EHR).
  • Knowledge of medication management best practices and regulatory requirements.
