Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Remote Paleontology Data Clerk to join our team. This is a 100% work-from-home administrative position crucial for maintaining the integrity and accessibility of our extensive paleontological collection data. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate data entry, verification, and organization of fossil specimen information into our digital databases. This role requires a strong commitment to accuracy and efficiency, supporting the research and curatorial efforts of our paleontology department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately input and update paleontological specimen data from various sources (field notes, physical labels, existing databases) into the museum's digital collection management system.
  • Verify and cross-reference data for completeness, consistency, and correctness, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Organize and manage digital files associated with specimens, including images, maps, and reports.
  • Assist with the digitization of legacy records and conversion of data formats as needed.
  • Maintain strict adherence to data entry protocols and standards established by the department.
  • Communicate effectively with curatorial staff and researchers regarding data queries and project updates.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of data management workflows and practices.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in data entry and database management (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Access, or specialized museum collection software).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain productivity in a remote environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of scientific terminology, preferably in biology or geology, is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a data entry or administrative role within a scientific, academic, or museum setting.
  • Familiarity with paleontological or natural history collection data.
  • Experience with digital imaging software or document scanning.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Library Science, Information Systems, Earth Sciences).
