Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Formulation Chemist to lead a dynamic team in our Henderson, Nevada facility. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the development, optimization, and scale-up of advanced chemical formulations across various applications. This role requires a strong background in chemistry, a proven track record in product development, and exceptional leadership abilities to guide a team through the full R&D lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of formulation chemists and technicians, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Design, develop, and optimize new chemical formulations for specific product applications, meeting performance, cost, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct hands-on laboratory work, including experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation of results.
- Oversee the scale-up of formulations from lab to pilot plant to full production, ensuring robust and reproducible processes.
- Implement and maintain rigorous safety standards and best practices within the laboratory.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, manufacturing, quality control, sales, and marketing teams.
- Mentor and develop junior team members, providing technical guidance and performance feedback.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and competitive products.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and patent applications as needed.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively.
Required Skills
- Extensive experience in chemical formulation development.
- Strong understanding of chemical principles, raw materials, and their interactions.
- Proficiency in analytical techniques relevant to formulation characterization (e.g., rheology, spectroscopy, chromatography).
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory compliance in a chemical laboratory environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with advanced statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DoE).
- Familiarity with specific industry applications relevant to Eastman's portfolio (e.g., coatings, adhesives, plastics additives).
- Certification in project management (e.g., PMP).
- Experience in a GMP or highly regulated environment.
