Job Description
Join the State University of New York at Albany’s dynamic research team as a Geological Field Aide with a specialized focus on fossil discovery. This full-time, on-site position offers an unparalleled opportunity to contribute to significant paleontological research across various states, working directly with leading paleontologists and geologists. You will be instrumental in all phases of field research, from site identification and excavation to preliminary specimen preparation and data collection. Key Responsibilities
- Participate in geological and paleontological field surveys and excavations across various locations.
- Assist in the identification, documentation, and recovery of fossil specimens, geological samples, and artifacts.
- Operate and maintain field equipment, including GPS units, excavation tools, and basic mapping instruments.
- Collect and meticulously record field data, observations, and measurements using digital and traditional methods.
- Perform preliminary preparation and cataloging of specimens in the field.
- Transport equipment, samples, and personnel safely to and from field sites.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations during field operations.
- Contribute to daily field reports and logistical planning for expeditions.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of geology and/or paleontology principles.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activity in challenging outdoor environments.
- Proficiency in using GPS and basic mapping tools.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail for data collection.
- Strong team player with effective communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
Preferred Qualifications
