Job Description

Are you a motivated and enthusiastic 14-year-old looking for your first job experience? The YMCA of Southern Arizona is seeking energetic Referee Assistants to support our youth sports programs on weekends. This entry-level position offers a fantastic opportunity to learn about sports officiating, develop leadership skills, and contribute to a positive environment for young athletes. You will work alongside experienced referees, ensuring fair play and a fun experience for participants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead referees with game setup and breakdown.
  • Help maintain scoreboards and keep track of game time.
  • Retrieve stray balls and equipment during play.
  • Communicate respectfully with players, coaches, and parents.
  • Learn and understand basic rules of various youth sports (e.g., soccer, basketball).
  • Report any issues or concerns to the lead referee or supervisor.
  • Ensure a safe and encouraging environment for all participants.
  • Arrive punctually for scheduled games and shifts.

Required Skills

  • Must be 14 years of age.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Eager to learn and take direction.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Basic understanding of sportsmanship.
