Job Description
Are you a former CDL-A holder looking to re-enter the trucking industry? Ryder’s comprehensive CDL-A Refresher Course – Back to Work Program is designed to provide you with the necessary training, support, and confidence to get back on the road safely and successfully. This paid program offers hands-on experience, classroom instruction, and mentorship, leading directly into a full-time driving position with Ryder upon successful completion. We are seeking motivated individuals ready to refresh their skills and commit to a rewarding career in transportation.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in all classroom and behind-the-wheel training sessions of the CDL-A refresher course.
- Demonstrate a commitment to learning and adherence to all safety protocols and traffic laws.
- Operate commercial motor vehicles in a safe and efficient manner under instructor supervision.
- Complete pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections thoroughly.
- Maintain accurate logbooks and comply with all Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
- Effectively communicate with instructors, dispatch, and other team members.
- Transition smoothly into a full-time CDL-A driving role with Ryder upon program completion.
Required Skills
- Possession of a valid (or recently expired) CDL-A license.
- Clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all regulations.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a CDL-A driver (even if lapsed).
- Familiarity with various types of commercial vehicles and hauling operations.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
