Job Description
Are you a motivated 14-year-old looking for an exciting opportunity to develop your leadership skills, gain valuable experience, and make a difference this summer? The YMCA of Superior California is seeking enthusiastic and responsible teens to join our team as a Camp Counselor Trainee. This unique program is designed specifically for young individuals eager to learn the ropes of camp leadership, work alongside experienced counselors, and help create memorable experiences for younger campers. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment, focusing on developing your potential as a future leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in daily camp activities and assist lead counselors with supervision of campers.
- Learn and implement YMCA safety procedures and emergency protocols.
- Engage with campers in a positive and encouraging manner, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Assist with setting up and cleaning up activity areas and camp facilities.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops focused on leadership development, conflict resolution, and youth engagement.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
- Serve as a positive role model for younger campers.
- Help organize and lead age-appropriate games, crafts, and other recreational activities under supervision.
Required Skills
- Must be 14 years of age at the start of employment.
- Genuine enthusiasm for working with children and youth.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced staff.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Positive attitude and a desire to contribute to a fun and safe camp atmosphere.
- Reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a camp participant, volunteer, or in a leadership role within school or community groups is a plus.
- Demonstrated interest in youth development, recreation, or education.
- Basic knowledge of first aid is beneficial but not required (training will be provided).
