Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Fish Market Ice Shoveler to join our dynamic fish counter team. In this critical on-site role, you will be responsible for ensuring our fresh fish and seafood displays are perfectly chilled and presented throughout the day. This involves regular handling and shovelling of ice, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and supporting the overall operations of our bustling fish market. This is a hands-on position requiring the ability to work in a cold, wet environment and lift heavy loads.
Key Responsibilities
- Regularly replenish ice on fish and seafood displays to maintain optimal freshness and presentation.
- Shovel, transport, and distribute large quantities of ice efficiently and safely.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards of the fish counter, ice storage areas, and surrounding workspace.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of fish displays each day.
- Monitor ice levels and condition of products, reporting any issues to the fishmonger or supervisor.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and food hygiene regulations.
- Support the wider fish counter team with general duties as required.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to lift and move heavy bags of ice (up to 25kg) repeatedly.
- Comfortable working in a cold and wet environment for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail for maintaining attractive and hygienic displays.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of health and safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a retail, market, or food handling environment.
- Knowledge of basic food hygiene practices or a relevant certificate.
