Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Hospital Admitting Nurse to join our dynamic team in Omaha. This role offers a unique blend of administrative and clinical responsibilities, serving as the crucial first point of contact for patients entering our healthcare system. The Admitting Nurse plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient admission process, encompassing everything from initial assessment and documentation to providing compassionate support and essential patient education. You will work closely with patients, families, physicians, and various hospital departments to facilitate seamless transitions into care, uphold regulatory compliance, and maintain exceptional standards of patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments upon patient admission, gathering pertinent medical history and current symptoms.
  • Accurately document patient information, insurance details, and consent forms in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to ensure appropriate bed assignments and patient flow.
  • Provide clear and compassionate communication to patients and their families regarding admission procedures, hospital policies, and anticipated care plans.
  • Educate patients on their rights, responsibilities, and available hospital services.
  • Verify and manage patient identification, ensuring accuracy and safety protocols are followed.
  • Assist with initial patient stabilization, vital signs monitoring, and basic nursing care as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA), and quality standards.
  • Facilitate timely and effective communication between emergency departments, operating rooms, and inpatient units.
  • Address patient and family concerns, providing emotional support and escalating issues to appropriate personnel when necessary.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Nebraska.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in an acute care setting.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Experience in an admitting, emergency department, or urgent care setting.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
  • Familiarity with medical billing and insurance verification processes.
