Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and reliable Street Sweeper Operator to join our team, focusing on maintaining the cleanliness and safety of public roads and areas within local council jurisdictions. This stable, full-time position requires operating specialized street sweeping equipment with precision and care. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, an eye for detail, and a dedication to public service. You will play a crucial role in enhancing the aesthetic appeal and environmental quality of the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate street sweeping vehicles and associated equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Adhere to scheduled routes and ensure timely completion of sweeping assignments.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct minor routine maintenance and cleaning of the sweeper vehicle.
- Identify and report any mechanical issues, hazards, or concerns immediately.
- Maintain accurate logs of routes, work completed, and any incidents encountered.
- Comply with all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
- Interact professionally with the public and local council representatives when necessary.
Required Skills
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement.
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating heavy equipment or commercial vehicles.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing, lifting, and bending.
- Strong understanding of vehicle safety procedures and traffic laws.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating street sweeping equipment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for minor vehicle troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with local streets and routes in the Chesapeake area.
- High School Diploma or GED.
