Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our team as a Blood Donor Room Nurse in Mobile, Alabama. This unique nursing role offers the stability of a structured environment with predictable hours, free from the high-stress, emergency-driven pace of traditional clinical settings. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of blood donors while adhering to strict medical and regulatory guidelines. This position focuses on direct patient interaction during the blood donation process, performing medical histories, physical assessments, and monitoring donors for reactions. Key Responsibilities
- Perform donor screening, including medical history interviews, vital signs assessment, and mini-physical examinations to determine donor eligibility.
- Accurately document all donor information and screening results in compliance with established protocols.
- Initiate and monitor venipuncture procedures for blood collection, ensuring donor comfort and safety.
- Recognize and manage donor reactions, providing appropriate medical intervention and documentation.
- Maintain a sterile and organized work environment, ensuring adherence to infection control standards.
- Educate donors about the blood donation process, post-donation care, and the importance of their contribution.
- Collaborate effectively with a team of phlebotomists, medical assistants, and other staff members.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as American Red Cross policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alabama
- Strong venipuncture skills and experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Previous experience in phlebotomy, blood banking, or a donor center environment
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Familiarity with AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) standards
