Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Outpatient Meds-to-Beds Technician with a strong focus on patient interaction to join our pharmacy team in New Port Richey. In this vital role, you will facilitate the seamless transition of patients from hospital to home by delivering prescribed medications directly to their bedside prior to discharge. Your primary responsibility will be to educate patients on their new medications, ensuring they understand dosage, potential side effects, and proper administration. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a compassionate approach to patient care, all while working closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver discharge medications directly to patient bedsides, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Provide comprehensive patient education on new prescriptions, including dosage instructions, administration techniques, and potential side effects.
  • Perform medication reconciliation to ensure patient understanding and adherence to treatment plans.
  • Verify patient identification and prescription accuracy at the point of delivery.
  • Collect co-pays and process payments for medications using established protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, and other medical staff regarding patient needs and medication-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of medication deliveries, patient interactions, and any encountered challenges.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of outpatient pharmacy supplies as needed.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, pharmacy procedures, and regulatory guidelines.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Active Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and patient interaction skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and pharmacy software systems
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 1+ year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, especially in an outpatient, retail, or hospital setting
  • Experience with medication reconciliation and patient counseling
