Job Description
Are you a skilled and passionate Butcher or Meat Cutter seeking a new challenge and an opportunity to relocate to Canada? Save-On-Foods in Kelowna, British Columbia, is actively seeking an Experienced Butcher / Meat Cutter to join our dynamic team. This role is open to eligible candidates interested in pursuing a Skilled Worker Visa route to Canada. You will be responsible for preparing and merchandising a wide variety of fresh meats, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. We are looking for individuals with a proven track record in a retail or commercial butchery setting, excellent knife skills, and a commitment to food safety and hygiene. Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled butchery tasks including cutting, trimming, deboning, and grinding various types of meat.
- Prepare and display attractive meat products for sale, ensuring proper rotation and freshness.
- Assist customers with their meat selections, offer preparation advice, and provide excellent service.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, adhering to all food safety and hygiene regulations.
- Operate and maintain butchery equipment safely and efficiently.
- Monitor inventory levels, assist with ordering, and minimize waste.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures, including health and safety guidelines.
- Support the training and development of junior staff members as needed.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Butcher or Meat Cutter in a retail or commercial setting.
- Exceptional knife skills and precision in various meat cutting techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of different cuts of meat, their preparation, and storage.
- Strong understanding and adherence to food safety standards (HACCP, provincial/federal regulations).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Physical stamina to lift heavy items and stand for extended periods.
- Eligibility and willingness to apply for a Skilled Worker Visa for Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal culinary or butchery training/certification.
- Experience with specialty meats or custom orders.
- Prior experience in a Canadian grocery retail environment.
