Job Description
Are you a certified 16-year-old looking for a rewarding and high-paying summer job? The YMCA of the Suncoast in New Port Richey is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Lifeguards to ensure the safety of our pool patrons. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable work experience, develop leadership skills, and be an essential part of our community. Key Responsibilities
- Monitor designated areas of the pool to prevent accidents and ensure patron safety.
- Enforce all pool rules, regulations, and policies consistently and fairly.
- Respond immediately and effectively to emergencies, including performing rescues and administering first aid/CPR.
- Maintain constant surveillance of swimmers in your assigned zone.
- Educate patrons on safe swimming practices and water safety.
- Assist with the maintenance and cleanliness of the pool area and equipment.
- Complete incident reports accurately and promptly.
- Attend all mandatory in-service trainings and staff meetings.
- Provide exceptional customer service to all members and guests.
Required Skills
- Current Lifeguard Certification (e.g., American Red Cross or equivalent)
- Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Healthcare Providers Certification
- Current First Aid Certification
- Ability to swim proficiently and pass a pre-employment swim test.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent observational and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a lifeguard (not mandatory for this role)
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification (a plus, but not required)
- Experience working with children and diverse populations
