Job Description

Universal Music Group is seeking an enthusiastic and driven A&R Scout Trainee to join our dynamic team in Downey, CA. This is an incredible entry-level opportunity for an individual with no prior A&R experience, but an abundance of raw talent, networking skills, and a finger on the pulse of emerging music trends. You’ll work closely with experienced A&R professionals, learning the ropes of talent discovery, artist development, and strategic networking within the music industry. Key Responsibilities

  • Actively scout for new and emerging artists, bands, and producers across various genres through live shows, online platforms, social media, and industry events.
  • Cultivate and maintain a robust network of industry contacts, including artists, managers, producers, and tastemakers.
  • Attend local and regional music showcases, open mic nights, and concerts to identify potential talent.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on discovered artists, including market analysis, social media presence, and potential commercial viability.
  • Assist senior A&R team members with administrative tasks, scheduling, and project coordination.
  • Stay continuously informed on current music trends, industry news, and competitor activities.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support to developing artists.
  • Participate in creative meetings and contribute innovative ideas for artist development strategies.

  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital music discovery tools.
  • High energy level and willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to attend events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Previous experience (personal or professional) in event promotion, artist management, or music journalism.
  • Demonstrated experience building and curating music playlists or online communities.
  • Familiarity with music industry software and databases.
