Job Description
Sanford Health in Rapid City, SD, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Creative Arts Therapist to join our dynamic mental health clinic team. In this role, you will utilize various artistic modalities—including visual arts, music, drama, and dance/movement—to facilitate healing, self-expression, and personal growth for individuals and groups facing a range of mental health challenges. This position involves developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, conducting therapeutic sessions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to provide integrated patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine client needs and develop individualized creative arts therapy treatment plans.
- Facilitate engaging and effective creative arts therapy sessions for individuals and groups, adapting interventions to diverse populations and clinical presentations.
- Document client progress, observations, and treatment outcomes accurately and in a timely manner within electronic health records.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated and holistic patient care.
- Educate clients, families, and staff on the benefits and principles of creative arts therapies.
- Maintain therapeutic boundaries and adhere to professional ethical standards and Sanford Health policies.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development activities.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Drama Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, or a related field from an accredited program.
- Board Certification (ATR-BC, MT-BC, RDT, BC-DMT) or eligibility for certification.
- Proficiency in a minimum of one creative arts modality (e.g., visual art, music, drama, dance/movement).
- Demonstrated understanding of mental health diagnoses, therapeutic interventions, and ethical guidelines.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced clinical environment.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of post-certification clinical experience in a mental health setting.
- Experience with diverse populations (e.g., children, adolescents, adults, seniors; various cultural backgrounds).
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic).
- Additional certifications or training in complementary therapeutic approaches.
