Job Description
Join FedEx Ground as a Forklift Dockhand in our dynamic Humble, TX logistics hub. This is a critical role for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are committed to safety and precision. As a Forklift Dockhand, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of packages and freight using various types of forklifts, including sit-down, stand-up, and reach trucks. You will play a key part in the loading, unloading, and staging of trailers, ensuring timely processing and dispatch. This role requires strong attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate various types of forklifts (e.g., sit-down, stand-up, reach trucks) safely and efficiently to move, stack, and retrieve packages and freight.
- Load and unload trailers, containers, and trucks with incoming and outgoing materials.
- Transport materials to designated areas within the warehouse, ensuring proper organization and space utilization.
- Conduct daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts and other equipment, reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as OSHA regulations.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment on the dock and throughout the facility.
- Participate in inventory counts and contribute to accurate record-keeping as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or logistics setting.
- Valid forklift certification or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to safety procedures and protocols.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds regularly and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately follow instructions.
- Basic mathematical and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with varying temperatures.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) or similar inventory tracking software.
- Familiarity with scanning equipment and package handling best practices.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Experience in a similar dockhand or material handling role.
